NOTES FOR ENTRANTS:
Some breeds, e.g. Doberman Pinscher and Great Dane, have been allocated separate classes based on color. Each color class winner is awarded BOV (Best of Variety); there is no overall Best of Breed for these breeds.
"Other XYZ Breeds Not Listed", i.e. classes A62, B47 and C39, are for (a) all dogs registered with the AKC but not listed in our show and (b) dogs recognized by other sanctions and / or associations. Documentation should be provided, where appropriate. The class winner is awarded "Best of Group (BOG)"; there is no overall Best of Breed for these classes.
Puppies under the age of 8 months are to be judged as if in a natural, i.e. non-show, setting. Therefore taped ears are permitted.
NOTES FOR JUDGES:
For each breed, you need to sort the entries (photos) by gender and age: adult dog, adult bitch, puppy dog and puppy bitch. Classes should be placed from 1st to 4th. For each breed, select a "Best of Breed (BOB)" from the first place winners. Then select a "Best of Opposite Sex (BOS)" from the winners of the sex which is opposite to that of the "Best of Breed".
Several special classes – identified in the previous section - have either a "Best of Variety (BOV)" or "Best of Group (BOG)". So there is no "Best of Breed" for these classes.
White Shepherds are to be judged by the AKC GSD (German Shepherd) standards.
In the case of "Other XYZ Breeds Not Listed", i.e. classes A62, B47 and C39, if you discover that you have two or more dogs of the same breed in that class and that breed is obviously not in the classlist, then please judge them separately according to their breed standard. Insert the breed in the Judging Template with the results. Then judge the remaining "Other XYZ Breeds" as "Other" dogs.
The Judging Template in which you enter the results will guide you through the process. Upon completion, this is emailed to Joanna Richardson.
SELECTING BEST IN SHOW DOGS:
For each Section (Herding, Northern and Working), you need to select "Best in Show" and "Reserve" for Adult Dog, Adult Bitch, Puppy Dog and Puppy Bitch. These are selected from 3 categories: Best of Breed (BOB), Best of Variety (BOV) and Best of Group (BOG).
Once you have chosen your 12 Best in Show (4 each for Herding, Northern, and Working), you select your Overall Best in Show.
NEW RULE: PICTURES USED IN CONFORMATION CANNOT BE USED IN THE PERFORMANCE DIVISION. A PERFORMANCE PICTURE CAN NOT BE USED MORE THAN ONCE IN THE PERFORMANCE DIVISION. .

PERFORMANCE CLASSES:
GENERAL PRINCIPLES:
HNWMDC offers classes covering a wide range of canine activities. Each of these is based on real events, many of which are competitive. It is a great opportunity to have fun with your model dogs, while learning about new activities.
For the competitive events, there are rules / sanctions to be followed. For example, AKC (American Kennel Club) has regulations for obedience, rally, agility and Canine Good Citizen. Relevant links are provided within this document to other sanctioning bodies.
To assist the judge, you are expected to provide a brief description of what your entry depicts as well as a test number, if relevant.
For example, "HTD III" or "Novice Obedience – Long Sit" or "Rally – Ex#5 – Right Turn". Otherwise judges will have no basis on which to
evaluate your entry.
Make sure that props and
handlers are used in the appropriate classes and in scale whenever
possible. If any type of explanations are needed, you will need to
provide documentation for the judges to read.
In other performance classes:
if there are two or more of a certain type of performance, judge and
list it separately from the "other" performance classes.
NOTES FOR ENTRANTS:
- Include the following information about your dog:
Name: Lord Cedric
Breed and Gender: German Shepherd Adult Dog
Make: CM Border Fine Arts
A brief description about the activity depicted in the photo:
“Novice Obedience – Recall: Handler has walked 10 feet, turned, and will now call the dog.”
Your name and address [for return of your photos].
- NEW RULE: PICTURES USED IN CONFORMATION CANNOT BE USED IN
THE PERFORMANCE DIVISION. A PERFORMANCE PICTURE CAN BE USED MORE THAN
ONCE IN ONLY THE SAME DIVISION.
- Presort your photos in class order.
- You may replace / add entries after the first show has been judged by sending them to the next judge in the show schedule.
- The last judge in the show schedule – normally the National Show - will return your photos. You will be expected to reimburse them for the
postage.
- If your entry arrives late, you may be put only in the unjudged classes (if you are not using the "show train".)
- When your photos are returned, if you receive another entrant’s photo(s), please send it/them back to them. This is a hobby. We are kind to each other ;-)
NOTES FOR JUDGES
- Please observe the following common courtesy rules:
**Do not judge the photos of anyone living in your household
**Do not eat or drink around the photos you are judging
**Do not smoke around the photos
**Do not write on any photo
- Do not criticize publicly any photos (negative action). However, in the interests of encouraging / educating entrants, you are most welcome to share helpful hints (positive action). This is especially true if the wrong breed or gender appears to have been assigned a model.
- Disqualifying (DQ) entries is to be done with great care. We want to encourage entrants, not discourage them ;-) My personal preference is to place an entry last. However you are at liberty to DQ for the following reasons:
**As the judge you are absolutely certain that the breed or gender is incorrect (although you could move the entry to the "correct" class / gender and email the entrant accordingly)
**The information on the back of the photo is incorrect or incomplete or difficult to read
**The performance set-up is incorrect, e.g. entrant clearly has no knowledge of rules governing that event.
- Scale is not to be taken into consideration, i.e. an out-of-scale entry is not to be disqualified or otherwise penalized. In-scale props are often difficult to locate and expensive to purchase; not all of us are gifted craftspersons! So please be tolerant in your judging.
- On the template(s) provided, list your name as the judge plus the month of the show. List all of the entrants along with the initials you have used for them in the results.
- Include the number of entrants in each class (as you have done for Conformation classes). The Judging Templates will guide you.
- Performance classes are split by gender. However in some cases you may have an entry which is a team of dogs. Please add "Team" results after the Adult Bitch (or Puppy Bitch) results for that class.
- In the "Other XYZ Performance Classes", if you there are 2 or more entries for a specific type of performance (e.g. Pause Box for Other Agility), then judge them and list them separately from the remaining entries.
- All first (1st) place model dogs in each class in each division (e.g. Skilled Canine Division) will be judged for the Champion / Reserve of that division. From those Champions you pick your TOP PERFORMANCE (and RESERVE) dogs. From your two TOP winners you pick your OVERALL BEST IN SHOW for both individual and team (if relevant).
- If you are running late with your judging (we all hopefully have other lives!), please inform the President (Joanna) so that she can advise other entrants.

To be held the second Saturday of each month by a volunteer judge. Each
show year goes from March until October. There will be no shows in
